Biographical research material on Donald Ian McDonald, Frank Shellard (d. 1915) and Martin Brennan (1840-1912). Includes correspondence, clippings, photocopies, index cards, obituaries, bibliographies and other papers. Shellard was a goldminer at the Ovens River, Lambing Flat and Palmer River diggings. Brennan was a New South Wales policeman who was on duty during the Lambing Flat riots and later became a police superintendant.

Harold B. Piper (1894-1953) was a judge and company director. In 1938 Piper was appointed a judge of the Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration and later Chief Judge from 1941 to 1947. He acted as judge of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory in 1939 and 1942. He was Chairman of the Stevedoring Industry Commission from 1942 to 1944.
